picture of Jolly Gardeners
Situated in the quiet suburban road of Lacey Street, SW15, the Jolly Gardeners is a rather good gastropub. In keeping with other such establishments, this one's all dim lighting, comfy leather seats, blackboards and coffee-table mix tapes on the stereo. Still, a nice, roomy, welcoming place, and not a bad selection of beers, with regular guests and the ones we tried were well kept - they should be as it's still a Cask Marque pub. There's also a large garden area which looks like it will be popular in warmer weather. We can't speak for the food, unfortunately, as on our visit we were too lazy to get out of our leather sofas near the cosy fire and order any. Still, it looked pretty much par for the course with mozzarella, olives, ciabattas and the like in abundance. If you're in the area and fancy that kind of thing you could do far worse.

This is a nice pub, in a nice part of London with nice food and, in part, nice food – lovely pie, boiled courgettes anyone? My problem is that it lets itself down. It’s the Friday before the final bank holiday of the summer and pay day for many and theres a few office lunches going on. One of their ales Sharp Doom Bar is out of action because of line cleaning, isn’t that why pubs are closed in the mornings? It’s a ten minute wait for a drink and 25 minute wait for the food. And there is no mash for said pie. Good beer and environment are hard to sort out, a bit of organisation shouldn’t be.

Fantastic food and a great atmosphere. Well worth travelling from Kent to eat there! Staff are great.
