Another pub in the area we've known for a few years now, this one hasn't taken the nosedive a lot of pubs in its situation has - if anything, it's been consistently good since it opened. Hidden down a side road off the top of Leather Lane Market, this is a bit of a gem and, despite the local designer bars, hasn't given in to the trends to be a.n.other style bar - and it's worth the deviation. The small front bar and the middle room haven't really changed much, other than a coat of blood red paint. They've still got the welcoming benches and ornate pub mirrors that make it feel a lot bigger than it actually is. The back room has improved a lot since the days when it was partially open to the elements - now it's somewhere you'd like to spend a few hours and have a few drinks. Which brings us nicely to the excellent beer choices: there are usually four choices on the taps, ranging from well known brands to guests from all over the country - we can't actually remember what other beers were on, as we got stuck into Caledonian Brewery's Double Dark Oatmeal Stout and that was all she wrote. There's a decent menu, with a range of choices to suit most diners (although the famous pork belly was missing on our last visit - shame). Not open on the weekends, this does cater largely for local workers and still manages to retain that local feel. Oh, and the good news is that the toilets are a lot better then on our last visit!

Not sure I'd rate this 5 stars...but it is very well worth a solid 4. Good selection of beers on offer, bar manager/landlord keen to tell us about them and their origins. I'm not totally bowled over with the decor, but it was a nice place to spend an hour in this part of London. Seemed a good range of food on offer, traditional pub fare to more unusual ( Go on, be honest, when did you last have 'Caen style Tripe'?) Cannot comment on quality of food as it wasn't on my agenda at 3pm on a Thursday...at which time the atmosphere was quiet, and the staff friendly and engaging.

Went to this pub tonight with work colleagues and was bitterly dissapointed. Barman 1 was very friendly at first. But when requested Chips from Barman 2 was told they didn't do them. The only thing they do is bags of crisps for £1.20- ridiculously expensive even by London standards! They only had one flavour so he stormed upstairs to get more, spent several minutes rearranging them behind the bar before finally throwing a pack in my direction. When we saw that chips were in fact on the menu but with fish, I asked Barman 1 who was clearing the table whether there was anyway to get a bowl of them. I was told 'Absolutely not' before finally getting the explanation that they only cut the right amount for the meals on the menus. The lack of chips, while ludicrous in a pub, wasn't the problem. The problem was the rubbish attitude problem, hissy fits and general rudeness of the bar staff. Really unhelpful and overpriced.

Excellent little pub. Nice atmosphere and as stated below, the barmaid is absolutely brilliant. The type of barmaid that many drinkers could fall in lust with because of her looks, charm, wit and wisdom. I fell in love!

One of the better pubs in area awash with good pubs. Excellent beer served by a publican who knows what he's doing
